Politics Are bad For Some Of Us
5.6.01 Fiction
Dear Sirs/Ladies,
We've heard it all now.
A politician met a disabled thief on the doorstep of a house.
"Excuse me." she said, "But I'd like to talk to you about criminals".
He replied. "I've taken the TV, and the video, and there is just junk left, but your welcome to look if you like, you might find enough for your fix."
Absolutely amazed, she stuttered. "You mean your a thief?"
"Aren't You?" He asked.
"No I'm a politician canvassing this street, and my theme is law and order."
"Can you get me a proper job?" He asked realising he had to change the subject quickly.
"Doing what?"
"Playing striker for Manchester United." He said hopefully.
"But your disabled, and I don't think they have wheelchair access to the pitches."
"Well if you can end that discrimination I'll vote for you." He must have been thinking about all the money, and lifetime adulation. Not to mention the strong carrying the weak, for no extra reward.
There was a court case apparently, where he claimed he had been just passing, and accosted to his extreme mental anguish, by someone desperately showering him with gifts, and promises of more, and his smiling solicitor said afterwards that both the insurance company, and the courts had ruled in his favour, explaining that faced with deciding who was telling the truth on any doorstep in the run up to an election, who would have believed a politician?
The good news:
The politician promised to put his case before Fifa, if he promised to vote for her.
The bad news:
He does intend to vote for her because he thinks she's good for his business, And are we to see wheelchairs on the pitch at Hampden?
No! She's already forgotten, what she promised him.
Oh Well - Nothing will ever get done this time for fear of an election defeat next time, as every time. They wouldn't want to upset the voters now would they? There must be something to be said for continuity in certain areas of government. Have you any idea just how much pain you cause some of us through fear of offending people like him. |
